Aypa Power has submitted applications for an Official Plan Amendment to the County and a Zoning By-Law Amendment to the Township for the Elora BESS. The purpose of this public meeting is to present the proposed amendments and gather public input. The Elora BESS is currently in the development phase, which will determine the final design of the project. Various studies are being conducted regarding land use and environmental assessments. Concurrently with this, Aypa Power is working with the County on an Official Plan Amendment and the Township on a Zoning By-Law amendment.

Aypa is working directly with local businesses and landowners, Indigenous communities, and members of the public to gain a better understanding of their issues and interests and how to effectively address these during project development. Aypa is also working closely with residents surrounding the location of the Elora BESS to ensure that they are active participants in project planning. This includes ongoing communication with relevant landowners, community stakeholders, and decision makers impacted by the project to maintain frequent updates, ensure residents are fully informed about each step of the project, and to maximize all available opportunities to collaborate together.
In addition to the benefits outlined above, the Elora BESS will create up over 300 temporary and permanent local jobs in Wellington County and provide specific job training for these roles.Every BESS deploys dynamic, technologically advanced resources that can service grid needs that natural gas, wind, and solar generation are not capable or able to reliably meet. Local BESS projects also minimize the local utility upgrades that are needed, such as new transmission lines and new utility substations, saving local utilities costs and minimizing the construction processes of developing new infrastructure.
