Slovakia’s Ministry of Economy announced on Friday (19 January) a call for projects linked to the modernisation of pumped hydroelectric power plants and the construction of new power storage facilities.
The call has a total budget of 44 million euros from Slovakia’s EU recovery and resilience plan (RRP), with the maximum grant for a single project ranging from 850,000 euros to 12 million euros.
Operators of existing functional pumped hydroelectric power plants with an installed capacity equal to or greater than 1 megawatt (MW), who are interested in modernising their power plants, can apply for non-repayable financial assistance. Projects aiming to develop stationary battery systems can also be supported.
Applications can be submitted until March 28, 2024. The main criteria for evaluation will be the cost complexity of the project and the guarantee of environmental sustainability, the ministry noted in a press release.
