China-headquartered Sungrow announced on Tuesday the signing of three landmark energy storage contracts with Saudi Arabia''s investment group Algihaz Holding, amounting to the world''s largest grid-side storage order.

Each project will have a capacity of 2.6 GWh, totaling 7.8 GWh. The three storage projects are located in Najran, Madaya, and Khamis Mushait, Saudi Arabia. According to the development plan, deliveries will commence this year, with grid connection expected by 2025.

A Sungrow representative told ESS News that the project''s scale, tight delivery schedule, challenging climate conditions, and complex logistics pose significant challenges.

To address these, Sungrow will deliver over 1,500 units of its latest Power Titan 2.0 liquid-cooled storage system. This system, with its integrated AC storage design and high energy density, will save 55% of the required land area. Additionally, Sungrow''s pre-installation and pre-commissioning of equipment will ensure rapid on-site installation and grid connection, meeting the project''s stringent delivery requirements, the company representative said.

For ongoing operations and maintenance, Sungrow will utilize its intelligent energy management system (EMS), providing multi-level real-time monitoring from the cell to the pack, and to the system level, ensuring safe and efficient operation. The project is expected to achieve a lifespan of over 15 years, guaranteeing substantial returns on investment for the stakeholders.

PVTIME – Sungrow has recently entered into a significant agreement with Algihaz Holding in Saudi Arabia, marking the largest energy storage order in the world to date.

The project comprises three sites with a total installed capacity of 7.8GWh, located in the Najran, Madaya and Khamis Mushait regions of Saudi Arabia. Delivery is scheduled to commence in 2024. Full-capacity grid-connected operation is expected to commence in 2025.

Sungrow will deliver more than 1,500 sets of PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled energy storage systems with integrated AC storage and high energy density to support the plants in a high-temperature environment. This solution will result in a 55% reduction in land usage area. Furthermore, CALB Tech will provide approximately 7.8 million battery cells.

The new plants will ensure the stability and reliability of the Saudi power grid over its 15-year operational lifespan and will play a pivotal role in enabling Saudi Arabia to achieve its Vision 2030, which outlines plans to increase renewable energy capacity to 58.7GW by 2030, a target that has now been raised to 130GW. In order to encourage the growth of renewable energy, Saudi Arabia offers a variety of incentives to attract both domestic and international investors to participate in photovoltaic projects. These include tax incentives, assistance with land use, and long-term power purchase agreements.

On July 15, Sungrow and Saudi Arabia''s AlGihaz successfully signed the world''s largest energy storage project with a capacity of up to 7.8GWh!

The project is located in three sites in Saudi Arabia: Najran, Madaya and Khamis Mushait regions.

The project is large in scale, with tight delivery schedule, complex dispatching management, and high requirements for grid support and operation and maintenance. Sungrow will deploy more than 1,500 PowerTitan2.0 liquid-cooled energy storage systems for this project. It is expected to start delivery in 2024 and achieve full capacity grid-connected operation in 2025. The project will effectively improve the stability and reliability of Saudi Arabia''s power grid and continue to promote the realization of Saudi Arabia''s "Vision 2030".

PowerTitan2.0 adopts an integrated AC storage design with high energy density, which can help customers save 55% of land area. The equipment can be pre-installed and pre-commissioned before leaving the factory, and it can be connected to the grid when it arrives at the station. At the same time, relying on Sungrow''s intelligent manufacturing capabilities and global sales and service system, it can meet the project''s extremely fast delivery needs.

PowerTitan2.0 is the world''s first energy storage system to achieve an extremely simple structure of "AC block integration". By integrating battery cells with PCS, the efficiency, performance, safety and intelligence level of the system are improved.

Since its release at the end of October 2023, PowerTitan2.0 has implemented multiple grid-side, power supply-side and user-side projects in Europe, Jiangxi, Shandong, Jiangsu, Hebei, Sichuan, Guizhou and other places. Especially in some user-side energy storage projects with intensive personnel and assets, it has fully accepted the test of grid dispatching.

China Huaneng''s first large-scale user-side energy storage project-Huaneng Longteng Special Steel 20MW/40MWh user-side energy storage project adopts PowerTitan2.0 liquid-cooled energy storage system. The project adopts an integrated construction mode of "photovoltaic + energy storage + electricity sales", and is expected to generate 18.57 million kWh of electricity annually. Through the "low-valley charging and peak discharging" mode, two charges and two discharges per day, the high electricity purchase cost of the steel plant is greatly reduced, and the dual value of cost reduction and carbon reduction is achieved. The economic benefits of the power station are estimated to reach 66.47 million yuan.
