As the leading solar energy player in Singapore, we are well-positioned to
SolarLand 2 (SL2) is a state-of-the-art ground-mount photovoltaic (PV) powerplant owned by Terrenus Energy SL2 Pte. Ltd. The plant harnesses energy from the sun — Singapore''s most available renewable resource — and converts it into electricity. The generation process does not release carbon into the atmosphere, making it a clean alternative to using fossil fuels that can help mitigate climate change. Using cutting-edge technology, solar expertise and innovation, SL2 has a total solar capacity of 19.2 MWp – a 60% per cent increase from the initial 12 MWp requirement of the tender issued by JTC.
All of SL2''s electricity output goes directly to the national grid, contributing towards Singapore''s goal of 2 GWp total solar capacity by 2030. The project introduces new renewable energy innovations and a land-savvy approach, creating new opportunities for the small city-state to embrace renewables into its Energy Story for a sustainable future.
SL2 is installed on 116,000 square metres of interim industrial land at Changi Business Park. In the event the land is reclaimed for other uses in future, SL2''s mobile design allows it to easily redeployed, requiring significantly less time and cost to dismantle, transport, and install elsewhere.

Behind Singapore''s largest renewable energy ventures.
JTC Corporation''s SolarLand programme aims to overcome space constraints and high capital costs while at the same time, reduce the carbon footprint and optimise the use of industrial land to contribute clean energy to Singapore.
There are new innovative projects underway. JTC and Terrenus Energy renewed their partnership for the SolarLand 1 Extension project, which pilots solar, tidal, wave and wind technologies in Singapore. When completed, it will be the world''s first four-in-one renewable energy facility and is expected to deliver one of the highest energy yields per square metre in the world.
All you need to know about utility-scale solar and how it impacts you.
Utility or large-scale solar farms – also known as solar parks or solar power stations – are solar installations where a large collection of photovoltaic (PV) panels, is used to absorb the sun''s power to generate power. Like traditional coal or oil powerplants, solar farms produce huge amounts of electricity that is sent to the local power grid. The grid then distributes the electricity to homes and businesses either directly, or through electricity retailers.
Unlike traditional coal or oil powerplants, the entire energy production process in solar farms does not emit any carbon into the atmosphere, giving it the term "clean" energy. Most sources of clean energy are also renewable, which means that they don''t run out or are naturally replenished over short periods of time, whereas fossil fuels are non-renewable and are expected to run out soon.
Because of these attributes, renewables have long been hailed as the mandatory next step for the global energy sector in tackling climate change. The transformation from a fossil fuel-based energy industry to a renewable one is called the energy transition and requires a massive revamp of today''s energy framework. This means more solar panels decorating the world''s surface.
Nothing is that simple. There are a few barriers to solar energy deployment in Singapore:
Similar to the rest of the world, Singapore''s current energy infrastructure cannot support the fluctuating availability of solar energy. The sun doesn''t shine at night, and adverse weather conditions impact generation, making solar still too intermittent as a major energy supply. However, with the commercialisation and rollout of new tech such as energy storage and data-based load management tools that can distribute electricity even when the sun is not shining, the outlook of solar is extremely bright.
Currently, solar deployment requires huge amounts of space. Being a small island-state, Singapore is faces natural challenges in its adoption. The focus now is on finding solutions that work around these limitations, including deployment of solar on alternative surfaces such as on water bodies, building facades and canals.
Solar is just getting started. Innovation is the bridge to draw out its fullest potential, and for that, it''s a matter of time.
TE inked a 19 MW agreement with our valued partner – a global technology giant – in December 2020. This agreement will help the RE100 company meet its goal of supporting its operations in the region with 100 per cent renewable energy.
Is your business looking for a renewable energy supply?
While utility-scale solar farms cannot supply businesses with solar energy directly, corporations can offtake some or all of the clean energy produced through a VPPA. The energy is usually bundled together with the corresponding Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), which are required to declare a business''s carbon offsets and prove its commitment to sustainability.
A wholly-owned special purpose vehicle of Terrenus Energy Pte. Ltd. (TE) established to develop, manage and operate the SolarLand Phase 2 project awarded by JTC Corporation in November 2019.
Terrenus Energy Pte Ltd is a renewable energy systems developer and solutions provider based in Singapore. Established in 2016, we have been on an upward-megawatt renewable energy journey as part of Singapore''s Energy Story. Tackling industrial challenges such as land scarcity and the intermittent nature of RE sources like the sun, our goal is to accelerate the energy transition through innovation.
Fueled by the global movement to stop climate change and the support of government and corporate partners, we have successfully brought new green projects and technologies to life, beginning with Singapore''s first solar farm in April 2019.
Engineering and industry know-how, precise execution, and a persistent strategy have contributed to our early momentum. More exciting projects are underway, including Singapore''s new largest ground-mounted solar farm and the world''s first powerplant integrating solar, wind, tidal and wave energy.

First-of-Its-Kind Containerised Mobile Substation
Substations are essential to the distribution of electricity as they transform voltages from high to low or vice versa for transmission over long distances and final delivery to consumers.
Typically, a substation is a standalone unit constructed onsite using concrete or equivalent materials. However, due to the shorter term given for land allocation, TE''s SPPG mobile substation is pre-fabricated and containerised for quicker installation and redeployment. This enables the unit to be transported nearly instantaneously wherever it is needed for use.
"Portable" Mounting System
A revolutionary ground mount PV design that reduces installation time by up to 50%. Its simpler installation process requires far less logistics, materials and labour than conventional solar farms, greatly reducing CAPEX and giving the system "portability". The compact structure allows high-density deployment, meaning more solar panels can be dispatched to produce more electricity.
Importantly, unlike traditional solar systems, the improved design removes the need for ballast blocks to stabilise the arrays, resulting in huge cost savings from the steep drop in material and labour costs. This also means that the speed of installation and redeployment is greatly accelerated, enhancing mobility.
