Over the past 48 hours, Albania has been impacted by severe weather, resulting in significant damage to the power grid, especially in rural areas where overhead power lines pass through challenging terrains.
The Distribution System Operator (OSSH) has announced that it has elevated its readiness level and deployed 2,300 field workers and substation operators across the country.
Repair operations for the damage caused by the bad weather in various regions are being carried out in coordination with OSSH''s central command, which is closely monitoring the situation.
"The time required to repair the damage to the power grid depends on the weather conditions. In certain areas of Shkodra, Kukës, Dibra, and the outskirts of Tirana, intervention in the field has proven challenging for our electricians, who are still on the job. Compared to noon, we have seen a slight improvement in the power supply situation by evening," OSSH reported.
OSSH, part of the OSHEE Group, emphasized its commitment to maintaining full operational readiness until electricity is fully restored to all customers.

Workplace Accident Lawsuits Cost Albanian Power Giant Dear, 17 August 2021
The publicly-owned electricity distributor has been found guilty in at least five recent lawsuits of failing to ensure workplace safety – costing the public millions, and pointing to a culture of negligence...
Data obtained by BIRN through Freedom of Information requests, FoIs, show that over the last two years, courts in Fieri issued five verdicts finding OSHEE [the Operator for the Distribution of Electricity] responsible for damages incurred due to lack of workplace safety.
They obliged the company to pay a total of 190 million leks, or 1.5 million euros, in compensation.
Experts told BIRN these verdicts point to a serious lack of workplace safety in publicly owned companies, which not only caused unnecessary deaths and injuries but also incurred costs that are then passed on to the public and consumers.
"Publicly owned corporations have formal offices responsible for job place safety and workers'' health, but these structures are often non-functional," Edison Hoxha, director of the Centre for Labour Rights, an NGO based in Tirana, said...
A ruling issued by the court of Fieri on June 25, 2020, noted that the electricity distribution company had attempted to deflect blame for accidents, citing a lack of inspections by state inspectorates...
